Villa’s brave comeback falls short as PSG survive Champions League thriller

Aston Villa nearly pulled off an astonishing Champions League comeback against Paris St-Germain, falling just one goal short of forcing extra time after trailing 3-1 from the first leg.

Early goals from Hakimi and Mendes extended PSG’s lead to 5-1 on aggregate, but Villa responded brilliantly, with goals from Tielemans, McGinn, and Konsa thrilling a raucous Villa Park.

Despite relentless pressure, three world-class saves from PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma denied the hosts a fairytale finish.

PSG held on to progress to the semi-finals, but Villa’s defiance earned them a standing ovation and widespread praise for their spirited display.
