Jan Cameron banned from leading companies for five years over share disclosure failures

Businesswoman Jan Cameron has been disqualified from leading any companies for five years following a conviction for failing to disclose millions of dollars worth of shares.

A Hobart court found that the Kathmandu founder concealed her control over A$14 million in Bellamy’s shares using a foreign entity and submitted a misleading shareholder notice to the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in 2017.

Despite her significant contributions to philanthropy and her role in employing hundreds through her directorship in 20 companies across Australia and New Zealand, Cameron was fined A$8,000. The ban prohibits her from being a director of, or managing, companies.

Her legal team has appealed the ruling highlighting her philanthropic efforts and warning of the impact her conviction could have on her charitable work. Magistrate Michael Daly acknowledged Cameron’s philanthropic contributions but emphasised the importance of accountability and proportionate sentencing for her offences.
