Police have made an arrest following an ongoing investigation into concerns surrounding burials at Waikumete Cemetery.

Auckland’s Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) has been probing the matter since early August 2024. Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin of Auckland City CIB announced that a 48-year-old woman was taken into custody yesterday in Favona.

The woman has been charged with misconduct in relation to human remains and faces nine counts of obtaining by deception. She is scheduled to appear in Auckland District Court on Friday, October 25.

Detective Inspector Baldwin emphasized that this arrest marks a key development in the case, which remains active.

“We cannot rule out further charges and hope this arrest provides some reassurance to those affected by this woman’s actions,” he said.

Given the case’s ongoing legal proceedings, the police are unable to offer further details at this time.

  1. This is why I want to be buried in chains, with warnings etched all over my coffin. “DO NOT OPEN!!”

Only wish I could see their faces 😆
