A woman gave birth shortly after landing on an Air New Zealand flight from Auckland to New Plymouth.

After flight NZ5041 touched down on Wednesday, the woman remained on board for medical attention, according to a report in state-funded media.

Emergency services, including St John Ambulance and New Plymouth Airport’s Fire Rescue team, responded around 3 p.m., transporting both mother and baby to Taranaki Base Hospital in moderate condition.

Air New Zealand praised its crew and passengers for their quick response and support during the unexpected birth.
