The carousel of six prime ministers in recent years proves something is “very broken” about UK politics, according to the US vice president.
The constant churn of British prime ministers shows that the UK political system is badly failing the public, US Vice President J.D. Vance has said, warning that ordinary people are “crying out” for real change.
Britain’s problem is bigger than any single leader, as the succession of David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer points to deep dysfunction in a system that is no longer delivering for the public, Vance suggested in an interview with The Sunday Times.
“What I see is six prime ministers in the last few years. What that says to me is that something is very broken about British politics and that people are really crying out for significant structural change,” Vance said. He added that the country has “been failed by its leadership for a long time” and “can do a lot more than it’s currently doing.”
Starmer announced last month that he would step down as prime minister and Labour leader after less than two years in power, following a revolt inside his own party. Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham is widely expected to replace him after winning a by-election in Makerfield.
Vance said he did not know much about Burnham personally, but stressed that Washington would work with whoever leads one of America’s “closest and most important allies.”
The vice president’s comments, published on the 250th anniversary of the US declaration of independence from the UK, come after months of unusually blunt criticism of London from Washington.
US President Donald Trump recently said Starmer had “failed badly” on migration and energy. Earlier this year, he said Starmer was “not Winston Churchill,” as relations soured over London’s hesitation to support the US-Israeli war with Iran.
Vance was especially outspoken when he condemned the brutal stabbing of British teenager Henry Nowak last month, arguing that it would not have happened had European elites “stood their ground against the politics of self-hatred and the mass invasion of migrants.” Downing Street responded by accusing foreign politicians of trying to “interfere” in British democracy and “stir up division.”
The vice president rejected the idea that such criticism amounted to hostility toward Britain, insisting that “it comes from a perspective of love and admiration… even though sometimes what we say is provocative.”
Vance made a similar argument at the Munich Security Conference last year, when he accused European governments of opening the “floodgates” to migrants while restricting free speech and hollowing out democratic norms.

Minor parties are on the rise throughout the west. Simply because the major parties are arrogant.
I do not claim minor parties are without shame. The green party destroyed critical petroleum infrastructure. Are we using less oil and gas? No. It just costs us more. So does the roading.
Taxation is worked out by whatever dim witted child like politician wants buy or hand out. People have left the country to find a more stable place to live. .

Hes not perfect. i am voting for Winston Peters NZ first. He is the most experienced politician who understands how prosperity works. He is sensible, practical and has more experience that all the other leaders combined.
Why not try a new reformer party instead? They wont get ahead if people wanting change wont take a risk. I hear you but NZF are in government now, so tell me what have they done exactly? Actions should always speak louder than words, right? Maybe list their “accomplishments” and if you still feel they are worth voting for do so, if not perhaps consider looking elsewhere.
That’s a good question. Here’s your answer. Unless the party is polling close to or north of 5%. Your vote will not count. It is better to support a popular party that has shown significant but restrained support. I very much like the Loyal Party and its ideas. They are nowhere near the polling needed.

These figures are from the Roy Morgan June 2026 nationwide poll. Different polling companies report slightly different results. For example, the most recent 1News Verian poll had National and Labour tied at 29%, whereas Roy Morgan showed National with a larger lead.
It is the coalition partners who hold the balance of power, hold the major parties to ransom.
Fact. At this time Labour has only gained 2% more than the last election.
Here is how it’s likely going to play out. Labour will be in opposition. Hipkins and his mates will be dumped by the leftover Labour MP’s because his history is way too toxic. He has not accepted accountability.
People fear the return of Hipkins, his extreme mis-management of the economy and his unwavering support for the injections. He hasn’t taken responsibility for the death toll from the various types injections and never will. Failed to turn up to the enquiry etc. Hipkins problem isn’t the people who died. It’s the relations and friends of the people who died. That huge group of people want him in prison.
Why Hipkins is still leader Labour heading into the election? Labour has no real replacement for Hipkins, and they know they are going to lose regardless.

How will they ever get near 5% (and there’s others like TOP) if you don’t vote for them? All this does is entrenches a cycle of more of the same managed downward spiral of failure and decline. Well put but respectfully also a futile argument I’ve heard over and over again that’s self defeating.
Keep in mind too, National and ACT literally “signed” their support for Labour’s policies during the so called pandemic. There’s no distinction to be drawn there of any consequence.

So is US politics, totally broken. A US administration that promised peace but delivered pro Israel warmongering instead. One that promised prosperity for Americans but has realised further economic decline and money moving upwards into the hands of a very small group of billionaire elites. The “deep dysfunction in a system that is no longer delivering for the public” is the party political system manned by ever more detached “professional politicians” who have become so obsessed with the system of governance they’ve forgotten their purpose – which is to represent the citizens of their nation.
It not a problem confined to the UK, it is wide spread throughout the “west”, including America. They have all embarked on a “globalist” mission at the expense of their own countries and to the detriment of the world generally.
My impression is they all seem to think that pointing at someone else’s failure, somehow detracts from their own. Might have worked once but the problems have become so significant and acute, people are not buying the attempts at deflection, anymore.
