A child has been left with life-threatening injuries following an alleged assault by a man at Myers Park in central Auckland on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to the incident near the park’s playground shortly before 5pm, with the child transported to Starship Children’s Hospital in critical condition. A second person also required hospital treatment.
Police cordoned off part of the park while officers investigated the circumstances of the attack. A 20-year-old man, who was reportedly unknown to the child, was arrested and taken into custody.
