Health Minister Simeon Brown has announced a continued rise in childhood immunisation rates, with national coverage at 24 months reaching 79.3% in Q3 of 2024/25—a 2.4-point increase from last year.
The data shows strong regional gains, with South Canterbury leading at a 12.1-point rise.
Brown credited the improvement to health targets, frontline efforts, and new GP performance payments aimed at boosting immunisation rates.
He said the Government remains committed to reaching 95% immunisation coverage by 2030 through community investment and support for local services.

95 percent…never in a million years! It appears there are 8 to 10 percent rates of ‘declines’ across some age groups.
The only way Immunisation can progress in New Zealand is for our authorities to accept openly and transparently that adverse reactions can occur and have the ability to fix the issues timely. The Covid vaccination drive was proof there are no adequate systems in place to deal with the outfall, no support for individuals and no protection for those who cannot safely be immunised without harm.
Clearly many of our Health Advisory and regulatory entities are not fit for purpose .
As for financially incentivising GP’s to jab, why not make them personally accountable for adverse reactions at the same time?
