A large fire at an industrial complex in Christchurch’s Sydenham suburb has left Auto Inspection Services premises with serious damage.
The blaze, which reportedly started from a lithium battery at a nearby recycling plant, spread through the roof and caused significant damage.
While no injuries have been reported, smoke has prompted nearby residents to stay indoors and led to the closure of at least one school.
Firefighters continue to battle the blaze with 50 crew members on site, and road closures are expected throughout the day.
