The family of Te Anihana Pomana, missing since August 21, has criticised police for issuing a media release stating they had found a body believed to be hers before formal identification was completed.
Police announced on Monday that a body was located in dense bush in Pukekohe on Saturday, noting identification was still pending. Pomana’s whānau said the announcement was made before they had the chance to inform close relatives, apologising to those who learned the news through media.
Police said the family had been notified and that an investigation and post-mortem were underway.
