
Thousands of Auckland residents are facing inaccurate Watercare bills due to faulty smart meters, with some receiving zero-use bills for months while others are being overcharged based on outdated estimates.
Watercare admits over 13,000 smart meters are malfunctioning, particularly a model known to have issues since October 2023.
Watercare has halted installations of the faulty meters, switched to manual readings, and offered apologies and payment plans.

Smart meters are not for the customer, they are for the vendor to extort your usage information.
Same thing with electrical supply. Your data about how you live your life is being reported by the new meters and is more profitable to sell this data than supply electricity.
Still, your bills will become more expensive as the vendor analyzes your usage times and adjust rates to better suit them.
The new meters communicate to the neighboring meters to determine wider context, And the vendor can control devices in your home, like limiting temperature or even turn off air conditioners as customers in Texas found out last summer.
There is a reason why smart meters are being legally mandated and rolled out all across Europe and North America simultaneously with companies like Blackrock behind it.
With the new RealMe Digital Identification, your resource usage can follow you around, be matched with your carbon footprint and be charged accordingly, no matter if you are at home, at work, or next door. Not that we talk to our neighbors anymore.
Blackrock Inc. are behind “Bluecurrent” here in NZ… they are rolling out replacement of perfectly functional electricity meters with new digital smart meters. They are very aggressive.
They are doing it the same way they rolled out COVID. By inviting YOU to organize a time for THEM. Contractually YOU asked for it. No matter if they have no legitimate right, or can’t prove they own your current meter.
This is not a fault, it’s a built in feature, smart meters can be used to control smart devices in your home so when your bill suddenly goes up you will have no way of knowing what they turned on while you were out. Smart meters are also not healthy for people, they give off an electro magnetic pulse that is not good for living things…..but as I got told “The Govt, said they are safe…” so I guess it must be true. It’s all about control of your everyday existence…..once we go cashless we are all screwed…use cash as often as possible,
REFUSE ALL SMART METERS, FOR BOTH GAS, ELECTRICITY AND WHERE APPLICABLE, FOR WATER USAGE.
Mercury Energy and before that, Trustpower tried to bully their way onto our property stating that this was a ‘mandatory’ replacement of old meters.
THAT, LADIES & GENTLEMEN, IS BULLSHIT!
I demanded to see the law, mandate, and / or regulation(s) which stated that they needed to replace the meters with urgency.
Hence, we are ALL within our Consumer Rights to refuse these hazardous reporting nodes.
I was also told that the companies could switch-off the every :15 second burst of microwave energy emitted by these devices.
THAT TOO IS…BULLSHIT!!!
These devices can overload and catch fire (bad news if a gas meter…), and will be used alongside ‘Social Credit and Carbon Footprint Scores’ to cut us off from utilities that WE outrageously pay for!
Those who have ‘Smart Meters’ report that their bills have doubled in some instances.
Those sensitive to EMF have no reason to install a ‘Smart Meter’ of any kind.
We still have our power meter manufactured in Finland, and our gas meter is perfect in recording gas usage.
We don’t have water meters installed, and we will refuse these as well as water is a Human Right under the U.N. Treaty.
