Fire and Emergency NZ have confirmed occupants of the building have been evacuated, although the exact number remains unspecified.
There have been no reported injuries thus far.
Police said one individual was apprehended following a disturbance reported at City Garden Lodge on St George’s Bay Road, shortly after 4:30 pm.
