Green Party delegates have voted to use the controversial waka-jumping law to remove former MP Darleen Tana from Parliament.
The decision came after months of internal wrangling following allegations that Tana was aware of migrant exploitation at her husband’s business.
Tana resigned from the Green Party caucus earlier this year but remained in Parliament as an independent MP.
The party’s co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick and the wider caucus had called on Tana to step down, but she refused, prompting the party to defer the decision to its members.
Despite the Greens’ longstanding opposition to the waka-jumping legislation, delegates debated and ultimately decided to proceed with its use during a late-night Zoom meeting.
The party had delayed the decision after Tana took legal action against the Greens, but the High Court ruled in the party’s favour.
The outcome now awaits formal confirmation, but Tana could soon be ejected from Parliament.
Well, another quick and descisive outcome had by the Greens. Nothing embarrasing here to see.
All the green commies can get in that waka and paddle off to Antarctica.
Would we get that lucky?
…OK Chloe…!
The hypocrisy is absolutely astounding from the Red-now-Green Communist Party…
