Emergency services, including four helicopters and four ambulances, responded to the scene, with two patients in serious condition flown to Waikato Hospital, and two others in moderate condition taken to Whanganui Hospital.
Nine more were transported by ambulance to Hāwera and Taranaki Hospitals.
