Half-baked burglary foiled

Northcote bakery burglary

An alleged bakery burglar’s plan failed to rise after he was caught in the act in Northcote on Thursday.

Just gone 4pm, Waitematā Police received a report of burglary from a store on Pearn Crescent.

Inspector Aron McKeown, Waitematā East Area Commander says the alleged offender had been observed by the bakery’s owner, who was watching via CCTV.

“A Police unit was dispatched and arrived just minutes later.

“A constable approached the rear of the building and heard rustling behind an enclosed area.”

The officer entered the space and located a man allegedly stripping steel off food racks. A bag of tools allegedly aiding the man’s efforts were positioned below him.

A 55-year-old man was arrested without incident.

“The quick attendance of staff helped stop a recidivist burglar whose offending has no place in our community.

“Police remind the public to report any suspicious activity to 111 if it’s happening now or to 105 after the fact.”

The man appeared in North Shore District Court on Friday, charged with burglary and possessing instruments for burglary.
