The country is at risk of a measles outbreak due to low immunisation rates, a health bureaucrat warns, following confirmation of a new case linked to overseas travel.
The infected individual, a Fullers ferry staff member, may have exposed others in Auckland, including at Woolworths Kelston and during ferry sailings between the CBD and Devonport on 5 May.
Health NZ spokesperson Susan Jack told state-funded legacy media the country’s 80% vaccination coverage falls short of the 95% needed to prevent spread.
Public health officials are tracking contacts, urging those unvaccinated and exposed to isolate, and advising anyone with symptoms to call ahead before seeking care.

It’s not a measle vaccine, it’s MMR. I’m 72, was born before all these vaccines and do just fine thank you. (I’ve had 3 vaccines my entire life. Polio, tetanus and small pox).

Got into an on-line fight with measles jabbers when I casually mentioned that measles was never feared when I was young. They surprised me by quoting the number of deaths World-wide that year. On looking into those deaths I found they were all in third World, broken countries with no sanitation and rampant malnutrition.
In a well run State, measles is not to be feared and the vaccine is junk. Recent supposed deaths in the U.S. were from co-morbidity, not measles alone.
Exactly correct, measles/mumps were a childhood rite of passage. Virtually everyone contracted them, and provided your homelife was clean, warm, and were well nourished, one got over it and had lifelong immunity.

Mainstream media today states… “You are considered immune to measles if you have proof of two doses of the MMR vaccine. People born before 1969 or who have evidence confirming measles previously are also considered immune.”
If Medical records are now retained 10 years and one day since last consult, how on earth can the individual produce evidence of Immunisation and/or confirm they have had measles previously. A recent check of the National Immunisation Register revealed that NONE of the vaccines (x5 ) that I received between the years of 1996 and 2013 were recorded.
Secondly, treatments are available for most of these conditions requiring vaccination so why then day after day are we being subjected to a barrage of vaccine adds, vaccine news and constant vaccine messaging. Yet the subject of vaccine in New Zealand remains widely under researched, inconsistent with published case studies as to vaccine causal links to chronic conditions and adverse reactions appearing to be hindered by significant under reporting.
Is it not appropriate timing for Health New Zealand to get their processes , information, research and records in order? Maybe they will find that ‘safe and effective’ will no longer fit the narrative. Neither will ‘one size fits all’.
