Health practitioner who shared child abuse images loses licence

Health news

A female health practitioner convicted of possessing and distributing child exploitation material has lost her medical licence and is seeking additional anonymity to “rebuild her life” in another field.

The woman, sentenced last year to 11 months’ home detention, had previously been granted suppression of her name and identifying details to protect former patients, some of whom were abuse survivors.

At this week’s Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal hearing, her registration was cancelled and a censure imposed, despite her statement expressing remorse and claiming “a low risk” of reoffending. She has requested her name be removed from the medical register entirely to prevent future employers from seeing her history, though the tribunal will issue a decision later on that request.
