Prime Minister Chris Hipkins confirmed he has tested positive for COVID-19 after a ‘rough night’.
‘Bugger! After a rough night I woke up this morning feeling pretty unwell and just got this test result,’ wrote Hipkins on his Instagram page.
‘I’m in close contact with New Zealanders on the campaign trail and I don’t want to pass it on to anyone, so I’ll be following the guidance and isolating for a few days or until I get a negative test.’
It is not known publicly what Hipkins’ full vaccination status is, but he has been photographed on numerous occasions receiving Pfizer mRNA gene therapy promoted by the government as ‘safe and effective’.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister told legacy media that, ‘he will continue with engagements he can undertake via Zoom. Further updates on his schedule will be provided in due course.’
