Williamson and Conway lead record partnership as Black Caps defeat South Africa

Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 133 and Devon Conway’s 97 guided New Zealand to a six-wicket victory over South Africa in the Tri-Nations match in Lahore, securing their place in the final.

Their 187-run second-wicket stand set a new ODI record for New Zealand against the Proteas, overshadowing South African debutant Matthew Breetzke’s brilliant 150, the highest ODI debut score in history.

Williamson, reaching 7000 ODI runs in just 159 innings—second fastest behind Hashim Amla—showcased his class with 13 fours and two sixes, steering the Black Caps to chase down 304-6 with eight balls to spare.

Despite a late stumble following Conway’s dismissal, Glenn Phillips (28*) ensured the chase was completed. Bowlers Matt Henry (2-59) and Will O’Rourke (2-72) contributed key breakthroughs, while Michael Bracewell was the most economical. South Africa, missing several key players, struggled to defend their total, despite Breetzke’s standout innings.
