The Human Rights Commission has issued a critical report on New Zealand’s Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme, suggesting it may be facilitating human trafficking and modern slavery.

Equal Opportunities Commissioner Dr. Karanina Sumeo highlighted alarming findings of systemic migrant exploitation, where workers—primarily from India, China, and the Philippines—paid exorbitant fees for jobs that either did not exist or were terminated shortly after their arrival.

The report hghlighted the urgent need for an enforceable framework for ethical recruitment, more robust business checks, and significant policy changes to protect migrant workers from abuse.

The Commission’s investigation revealed widespread deception, where overseas recruiters and local employers allegedly collaborated to exploit migrant workers for profit.

Migrants often found themselves in dire situations, burdened with debt and unable to secure legitimate work after losing their job due to their visas being tied to a specific employer. The report calls for an end to this practice, stronger compliance measures, and better support systems for migrants.

The Commission also recommends New Zealand adopt human trafficking legislation and ratify international conventions to protect migrant workers’ rights.

  1. This is precisely why the globalists want immigration. Its not about diversity or any of those woke trappings, that’s a fluffy dystopian smokescreen to silence opposing voices and push for exploitation of human need and desperation.

  2. Yes immigration New Zealand have A LOT to answer for, they created this aewv bs it needs to stop now! Migrant exploitation is taking resources away from kiwis needing help. The employers who are caught exploiting get away with it while these immigrants get all the resources once again while KIWIS are left living on the street! Send then back to their countries and drastically downsize immigration of the useless middle managers

  3. It is said for the migrant, the problem is with our politician they making lots of money from those companies who exploiting those migrant. Time to stop all lobbyist, even better, put them in a cage with the politician.
