Hutt City Council has stepped away from the alliance delivery model for the $700 million Riverlink project, which includes relocating Melling railway station, building a new bridge over Te Awa Kairangi/Hutt River, and improving stopbanks.
The council cited concerns over affordability and cost-efficiency after reviewing the model formed with AECOM and Fletcher Construction in 2023.
Mayor Campbell Barry stated the alliance could not deliver key components, such as the city link bridge, within budget. The council will now pursue alternative delivery options while seeking government funding and collaborating with NZTA on other aspects of the project.
This might be the first time a council who spends other people’s future income have trimmed down their habits.
Great move, I cannot see what can be achieved by improving stopbanks…………
