Chiefs surge past reds to reclaim top spot

The Chiefs reclaimed the top spot on the Super Rugby ladder with a gritty 27–15 win over the Reds in Hamilton, showcasing their championship credentials in a tense, rain-soaked clash.

Despite the close scoreline, the Chiefs sealed the match with two late tries, including a crucial effort from Samisoni Taukei’aho, sparked by a powerful bench performance and milestone 100th game for Shaun Stevenson.

The Reds, who had been tough opponents throughout and passed up easy points in pursuit of tries, were undone by handling errors and second-half ill-discipline.
