The Public Service Commission will conduct an independent inquiry into allegations that Te Pāti Māori misused private data during the 2023 election campaign.
Former workers at Manurewa Marae claimed that census forms were photocopied and entered into a database, which they believe was used to target voters in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate.
Te Pāti Māori MP Takutai Tarsh Kemp, who was the marae’s chief executive before narrowly winning the Tāmaki Makaurau seat, is at the centre of the allegations. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has called for the investigation into the serious claims.
The review, to be established under the Public Service Act 2020, will include terms of reference, timing, and the appointment of an independent reviewer, with further announcements expected this week.
In addition to the Public Service Commission, the police, Stats NZ, and the Privacy Commissioner are also investigating the allegations.
Speaking to legacy media today Luxon stressed the need for the inquiry to be independent and comprehensive, covering actions by various government agencies to ensure the appropriate use of personal information and the management of conflicts of interest to maintain trust in democratic process and the secure handling of personal data by government agencies.
“…Luxon stressed the need for the inquiry to be independent and comprehensive, covering actions by various government agencies.”
Just like the covid “inquiry”?
“Independent and comprehensive”
Yeah Right!
Again, will “independent” mean just a more convoluted ‘expert official’ hierarchy inquiring?
Again, will “comprehensive” mean that overall important aspects of such inquiry will be cunningly excluded?
“…to maintain trust in democratic process…”
If they really would mean what they say, there would be heads rolling.
In regard to the covid “inquiry”, that would need to include at least a ‘mea culpa’ by the lot in the beehive, because THEY ALL were part of the covid totalitarianism.
Overseas officials begin to grasp the importance of comprehensiveness.
Here the officials still practise their vacuous smirks.
Pity we couldn’t have had a full and far reaching independent public inquiry into the CHCH alleged mosque ‘attacks’
Innocent of the tentacles of state control
Which would quickly have established that the video was in fact a CGI fake
