Palestinians are fleeing parts of Gaza City as Israeli forces establish a foothold on the outskirts ahead of a planned ground offensive approved by Defence Minister Israel Katz.
The operation, aimed at seizing what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls the “last terror strongholds,” comes after intense bombing and artillery fire, with thousands expected to be ordered south.
The UN, ICRC, and world leaders including France’s Emmanuel Macron have warned the assault risks a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, while Hamas accused Netanyahu of pursuing a “brutal war” and ignoring a new ceasefire proposal.
Israel insists the campaign will dismantle Hamas’ military infrastructure, though concerns grow over civilian displacement, worsening humanitarian conditions, and the safety of hostages still held in Gaza.
