Fighting continued in southern Lebanon despite Israel and Hezbollah agreeing to a US-backed partial ceasefire aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
While both sides publicly accepted the proposal, overnight exchanges of fire persisted, with Hezbollah targeting Israeli military positions and Israel carrying out strikes in southern Lebanon. The ceasefire followed intervention by US President Donald Trump, who said he had secured commitments from both parties to halt attacks, although Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned military action would continue if Hezbollah targeted Israeli civilians.
The conflict remains linked to wider tensions involving Iran, which has warned that Israeli operations in Lebanon threaten broader ceasefire efforts and ongoing negotiations with the United States. The war has claimed thousands of lives, disrupted regional stability, contributed to rising oil prices and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy shipping route.
