French President Emmanuel Macron has dismissed speculation of a domestic dispute with his wife Brigitte after a viral video appeared to show her pushing his face aside as they arrived in Vietnam.
Macron described the incident as “a playful moment” between the couple and condemned efforts to assign false narratives to genuine footage, accusing disinformation campaigns of “distorting reality”.
The video, taken by the Associated Press, shows Brigitte shoving Macron’s face with both hands as they disembarked in Hanoi, though her facial expression is obscured.
Initially denied by the Elysée, the video was later confirmed as real but downplayed as a harmless “squabble.”
Macron linked this episode to other misleading viral clips—such as one he claims falsely alleging he shared cocaine and another implying Turkish President Erdogan overpowered him—warning that France is being targeted by “coordinated disinformation efforts” amid global tensions.
Why is this being reported as ‘embarrassing’?
Domestic abuse isn’t embarrassing for either party. It’s shameful on the part of the abuser and humiliating for the victim.
