A major fire at New World Victoria Park in central Auckland prompted a large-scale response involving 20 fire trucks and support vehicles, including a specialist aerial appliance rushed from Hamilton.
The supermarket, which was undergoing renovations, caught fire around midday on June 17, leading authorities to issue an Emergency Alert and advise the public to avoid the area while nearby residents were told to close windows.
All persons were accounted for, and by late afternoon Fire and Emergency NZ confirmed the blaze was under control with crews dampening hotspots.
