Police have charged the man taken into custody in central Auckland with attempted murder.
Emergency services were called to Myers Park about 4:45pm on Sunday, to reports of a serious assault.
“The child victim remains in Starship Hospital in a serious but stable condition, while the 20-year-old man remains in hospital in serious condition as a result of self-inflicted injuries”, said Superintendent Sunny Patel.
“The 20-year-old has been charged with attempted murder in relation to the assault on the child.
“The child’s family have been advised and are being supported.
“A scene examination at Myers Park has been completed, and the investigation into what happened is ongoing.
“Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident, nor do we believe there is any ongoing risk to the public.
“As part of the ongoing enquiry, Police are urging anyone who saw what happened, and/or anyone with photos or video of the incident, to please come forward.”

How anybody would want to live in that multi racial cess pool melting pot of iniquity being baptized with copious amounts of cultural enrichment is beyond me.
Auckland is degenerating quickly if you take any time to notice.
Locked in and loaded exasperated debilitating effects through the devastating impacts of the extended COVID lockdowns at the hands of a tyrant with its hands around its neck for no reason.
Auckland new rail network will become like New York’s underground a massive burden and perennial mill stone placed around the necks of tax payers.
Following in the footsteps of its American contemporary counterparts who are collapsing into their own footprints.
Violent crime on Auckland’s rail network is a growing concern. Here’s what the data shows:
AT-reported figures (trains specifically, Nov 2023 – Nov 2025):
156 robbery records
38 injury records
28 antisocial behaviour / passenger issue records
Year to August 2024 (all AT services): an average of 93+ incidents per week (~13/day) across the network.
On trains alone, that was 83+ security incidents per week, including roughly 3 assaults, robberies or thefts per week.
August 2024 was a record month on the train network with 23 assaults, 58 disorderly behaviour cases, and 9 robberies/thefts — the highest since records began in January 2022.
All AT public transport (Jan–Dec 2025): 2,161 reported incidents of aggression, violence, racism, or inappropriate behaviour network-wide (~6/day), peaking at 249 in March 2025.
Notable violent incidents:
Halloween 2025 (Morningside): ~30 teens attacked four partygoers on and around a train; victims suffered life-altering head injuries. Five youths referred to Youth Aid in October 2026.
Nov 2024 (Glen Innes): Two teenage boys assaulted by a group of eight men in balaclavas.
Oct 2024 (Puhinui): A man assaulted and robbed by ~11 youths.
May 2025 (Henderson): A woman kicked and punched by a group while waiting for a train.
Oct 25, 2026 (Mt Albert): A 39-year-old man charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after an on-train assault.
Data gap: AT has been criticised for not breaking down its records by route, location, number of victims, or the specific nature of the act, and for not distinguishing criminal injuries from slips and falls, making it difficult to get a precise picture of violence on the rail network specifically.
And we have been told claims leading up to the election that crime had come down under the National coalition?
Does that mean that these figures were worse previous to this?
Operational Deficiencies and Shortcomings
Recent significant incidents on Auckland’s rail network include 12 days of unplanned cancellations and delays across February 2024, two Signal Passed At Danger (SPAD) incidents involving the Te Huia service in 2023, and one derailment at Tāmaki in June 2022. Additional notable events include a false fire alarm at Karanga-a-Hape in October 2026 that disrupted the City Rail Link, a cable fire at Waitematā in September 2026, and a wrong-track routing incident in February 2026 that stranded 24 passengers.
