Manage My Health data breach raises risk of bank fraud

A cybersecurity expert has warned that the Manage My Health data breach, which has affected about 125,000 users and exposed hundreds of thousands of medical records, could leave victims vulnerable to bank fraud because stolen personal details may be enough to bypass common identity checks used by financial institutions.

Dr Abhinav Chopra told state media the mix of health and personally identifiable information could be exploited for phone banking and money transfers, arguing the platform lacked adequate basic security controls for the sensitivity of the data it held.

While Manage My Health says its systems and passwords are encrypted and ISO-certified, affected users have struggled to obtain information amid website outages and overloaded phone lines, and Chopra has urged people to be cautious of emails or messages that could be scams, particularly outside business hours when verification is difficult.

      • You see, thej thought they were clever with the covid bio-weapon mass-extinction program (who needs people in the age of AI) , and cunning thej were.
But committing always mass-manslaughter becomes suspicious. For the nuances they use the daily struggle of survival, and data breaches, identity theft, digital glitches and AI subversion. The MO: Keeping the sheeple in eternal struggle through parasitc extortion and government collusion to feed the system that leeches on the man of the land.

  2. Did health nz or it’s predecessor, te whatu ora, do proper due diligence on it’s systems, governance, operations before using them?

Why didn’t people question what they were signing up for before giving manage my health aceas to their records?

Maybe it is a good thing that people have learnt a valuable lesson about privacy.

  3. AI will tell You if the Medical Centre You are using is/was affected
If so E Mail something like

Subject: Request to Deactivate My Manage My Health Account
Hello …. – Trust You are well.

I would like to have my Manage My Health (MMH) online portal access fully deactivated.
    Could you please:
Remove my email address from the MMH portal linkage, and
Disable my MMH access in your practice management system
Please confirm once this has been completed
    Signed
Better to have this in writing than just calling
Putting it in writing is a smart move.
A written request creates a clear record of what you asked for and when you asked for it which removes any ambiguity later on
Clinics deal with so many verbal requests that things can get lost or misremembered but an email is concrete and gives You recourse and peace of mind in some respects
