In the Auckland suburb of Beach Haven, an unsuspecting man narrowly escaped death when his parked ute was riddled with bullets during an early morning shooting.
The man, a grandfather, was using his cellphone in the dark when the attack occurred. He later told a neighbour he believed “someone was looking out for him” as the bullets missed him by mere millimetres, according to a report in legacy media.
The incident, which occurred around 6:30 am, shocked residents who were awakened by the sound of multiple gunshots and screeching tires.
Police are currently investigating the incident, with forensic teams combing the area for evidence. They confirmed several bullet casings were found at the scene, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Witnesses saw two teenagers fleeing the area shortly after the gunfire.
