More measures introduced to crack down on gangs

The Government has introduced legislation yesterday which will give Police additional tools to go after gangs who inflict fear and misery on everyday Kiwis, Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith says.

“Gangs have recruited more than 3000 members over the last five years, a 51 per cent increase. Meanwhile, gang-related violence, public intimidation and shootings have significantly escalated, with violent crime up 33 percent.

“That is why, as part of the National, ACT and NZ First coalition agreement, the Government will ban all gang insignia in public places, create greater powers to stop criminal gangs associating and communicating, and give greater weight to gang membership at sentencing.

“Police will be able to issue dispersal notices, which will require gang members to immediately leave the area and not associate with one another for seven days.

“Courts will be able to issue non-consorting orders, which will stop specified gang offenders from associating or communicating for up to three years.

“The law will also be changed to give greater weight to gang membership as an aggravating factor at sentencing, enabling courts to impose more severe punishments.

“For too long gang members have been allowed to behave as if they are above the law. This Government is serious about restoring law and order, and the tolerance gangs enjoyed under the previous regime, has ended.”

  1. Suspected gang members and associates’ 150,000.
    Total number of NZDF and Police combined- 150,000.
    In the U.S., my relative was threatened by a bikie gang some years ago. The confrontation started at the petrol station, and the gang tailed my relative to his house.
    When they tried to force entry, they got a rude surprise when dear old uncle opened-up with a 7.62 SKS (semi-auto AK-47) killing 3 and wounding 1 as they entered the home.
    Uncle was a combat Veteran who served in Vietnam and Gulf War One.
    Since the incident occurred in Florida, no charges were filed against my relative.
    The bikie gang threatened retaliation.
    When that happened, a group of armed Veterans showed-up at their pad, ran the gang off, and burned the clubhouse.
    The Sheriff, who had continual problems with the gang, looked the other way when this happened.
    Items found at the pad;
    1. Hand grenades;
    2. AR-15’s converted to fully-auto M-16’s;
    3. Sawed-off shotguns;
    4. Tasers and pepper spray;
    5. A ‘P’-lab in a garden shed on the property;
    6. $39K in cash…
    We need our Firearms Rights restored, as one gang here has already threatened a war.
    And that won’t turn out nice for anyone, especially those who get caught in the cross-fire.

  2. THE GOVERNMENT HAS INTRODUCED LEGISLATION YESTERDAY WHICH WILL GIVE POLICE ADDITIONAL TOOLS TO GO AFTER GANGS WHO INFLICT FEAR AND MISERY ON EVERYDAY KIWIS, Does this include politician gang and police gang

    • The hypocrisy is that one gang is ‘legal’ and the others are ‘illegal’
      Look at the gangs in the former Soviet Union;
      NKVD, SMERSH, KGB, CHEKA, etc. that killed 65 million Russian Orthodox Christians.
      Those gangs, BTW, were comprised of mostly Zionist J3wi$h outsiders that HATED Russians!
      The Political Gang uses the Police Gang, and this goes back to Roman Times of ‘Politi’ directly enforcing Caesar’s whims. This is where the ‘Praetorian Guard’ became the enforcers.
      Police work for Government, and do NOT represent nor protect you.
      NEVER TALK TO THE COPS, either here or overseas!!

  3. Some of the ‘Pillars of Society’ and ‘Titled’ persons are directly related to gangs, but that is conveniently ignored at awards time.
    Besides, the gangs usually do the dirty work of certain persons who do not want to get their hands dirty.
    That is why the government and Police NEED the gangs, as it justifies their reasons for existing with taxpayer-funded payrolls.
    And then, there’s the Covid Gang, that made LOTS of money in a similar was as other gang-related drug dealers do…!

  4. They should go after corrupt politicians and non for profits… The real criminals….
    Innocent running from the cops while,guilty running for mayor

  5. If you are going to crack down on gangs wouldn’t you want them patched so they are easily identifiable? then it would be the gangs decision to de-patch to stop being targeted and that would also violate BOR,s legislation.
    The Govt violated our BOR,s during Covid and we condemned them and now they are making hypocrites out of us.
