Newshub has announced the closure of all its operations, resulting in the loss of at least 250 jobs.
The Newshub website will also shut down. The final 6pm news broadcast will be on July 5.
Owner Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) told media today there had been ongoing discussions with external entities to potentially sustain a scaled-down news service, possibly limited to a 6pm bulletin on TV3. No agreements, however, materialised.
Discussions between WBD and various media entities, including legacy media outlet Stuff, explored avenues to salvage segments of the operation. Suggestions included outsourcing a streamlined news bulletin to a third party.

I’ve never watched it but because it is owned by Warner Brothers Discovery, I wonder if that is the same outfit that owns “The Discovery Channel” on satellite and cable TV?
If it is then I can only imagine what the quality is like. I have watched “The Discovery Channel” over the last decade go from being interesting to having content like “Naked and afraid”, another program were people salvage junk, another where people dive in sewers: It really is terrible.
