A strong earthquake struck the Drake Passage between South America and Antarctica on Friday afternoon NZ time.
While the United States Geological Survey initially recorded the quake as magnitude 8 before revising it to 7.5, New Zealand’s National Emergency Management Agency confirmed the event.
After assessment, officials stated there is no tsunami threat to New Zealand, as reported in state-funded media.
