Nurses for Freedom NZ (NFFNZ) has tirelessly supported Nurses since its inception in 2021 in response to the Covid-19 mandates.
A press release from the organisation states, “This month NFFNZ has re-launched as The Nurses Collective NZ, in an attempt to connect Nurses and other Clinicians looking to make a difference to how health and wellness is delivered in New Zealand.
“One of the original objectives of NFFNZ was to allow ‘all Nurses the right to work in a place of their choosing without prejudice’.
“A recent ruling by Te Whatu Ora has seen the health and safety risk assessment associated with the re-employment of unvaccinated Nurses (and Unvaccinated Student Nurses on tertiary placements) has finally been removed meaning NFFNZ is able to address other issues plaguing the Nursing workforce.
“Most Nurses, Midwives and Carers carry battle scars from the Covid debacle despite their individual opinion on the science. Recovery will take many years, especially for those coerced into having the vaccine and those treated abominably by the system.
“The important thing to note” says Deborah Cunliffe, Nurse and Founder of NFFNZ is that “despite how badly they were treated, many Nurses have put aside their personal feelings and returned to a system that is better for having them in it. We need to be in the system to change it from the inside out.
“Nurses and other health care workers who have suffered personal and professional harm have returned to our health system because they believe in its potential, as should each New Zealander. They are heroes, and should be an example to us all of why we should not throw the baby out with the bathwater” said Cunliffe.
“The public health system belongs to each New Zealander; as such, we should all take some responsibility for how things are managed and for the kind of health we want to see delivered. Politicians, Unions and appointed guardians do not have the sole right to comment on a system that belongs to the people.”
“The Nurses Collective NZ also believes Nurses should have the right to practice in a professional and safe manner that best represents their individual worldview and values rather than the ‘one size fits all’ agenda currently imposed by regulatory bodies, together with prevailing global narrative that tends towards political correctness and wokeness.
“To allow New Zealand Nurses to connect NFFNZ have re-launched their website and Facebook page as The Nurses Collective, NZ and invite all health care workers to join them.
Going forward, The Nurses Collective NZ intends to focus on professional and ethical issues impacting the nursing workforce.
“Many of these issues have arisen courtesy of the Covid narrative, especially the need to be able to speak freely and professionally about contentious issues” said Cunliffe.
“The Nurses Collective will be addressing issues rather than capitulating to the prevailing narrative. It’s not a comfortable place to be, but if we want to sleep soundly and ensure our nursing legacy is not lost then we need to address these difficult issues whilst we still can.”
