Oranga Tamariki ‘a racist and disfunctional organisation that must be dismantled’ – Counterspin

The independent media outlet is calling for the government agency’s dis-establishment in light of a shocking case involving the uplift of four Maori children.

The children, all siblings, had been placed in the care of foster parents where they enjoyed the benefits of a loving and safe environment in an ‘idyliic’ semi-rural location in the South Island.

The foster parents were of European heritage.

Everything was going exceedingly well for the children, who were thriving, and the couple were praised by social workers for their efforts.

But everything took a drastic turn in 2019 following a legal amendment and the revelation by Newsroom about the controversial removal practices targeting Māori mothers and children.

The foster parents came under scrutiny and investigation, facing criticism for their ethnicity and nationality. Despite their efforts, and earlier promises from Oranga Tamariki of a ‘forever home’, they were informed that there was no plan for the children to stay with them. Instead they were removed and given to relatives in the North Island who were previously unknown to the children on account of ‘cultural safety.’

A Newsroom documentary on the case was banned until the legacy media outlet won a Court of Appeal case which paved the way for its publication earlier this month.

South Island Māori leader Tā Mark Solomon was one of many who criticised OT’s approach, labelling it ‘reverse racism’.

‘I still look at the fact that [after] two and a half years, traumatised children have been traumatised again by the processes of Oranga Tamariki. You’re re-traumatising all those children just so we’re ‘culturally safe’ now. Where’s the consideration of the trauma of doing that. I think that’s what’s missing from this whole picture. What will this do to those children?’ he told Newsroom.

  1. If the public would only know the dismal and broken state of oranga tamariki, formerly known and understood by the name of CYF, and the NZ Family Court system!
To say the least, it is a TOTAL DISGRACE.
Children have to wait YEARS until ‘justice’ is served. The procedures are insanely costly, time consuming, frustrating, racist and totally inadequate.
The apparatus is full of bias against fathers and -in this case- well-meaning foster parents. Procedures are heavily skewed against them. Mothers can obtain protection orders at the sleight of a lie, find co-conspirators in ‘womens refuge’ centers, usually receive legal aid for their scam and usually do not need to worry about keeping a job and paying the bills and mortgage. On top of all that, those mothers then generally stay on the social benefit gravy train for years to come, one of the main incentives for this child abuse.
Therefore it is no wonder that nearly every third child in Godzone grows up without a father. The web is full of horrible stories of fathers being ousted from their important role. The subsequent social fall-out of youth delinquency, truancy, immorality, drug use, psychological problems, teenage pregnancies, crime etc. is obvious and statistically abhorrent. Godzone is leading internationally in all the wrong places.
Will this broken and corrupt OT/CYF and Family Court system get the attention our Godzone children need?

  2. Call it Social Welfare, CYFS or Oranga Tamariki – it has always been the same – a government department full of bureaucrats who haven’t a clue how to get the outcomes of their mission statement declaration.
The one thing that is missing in this country is a genuine affection for children. It is so obvious newcomers often comment on the fact. What sort of place has to make a law against hitting children to stop parents from beating them silly? We have a brutal culture – if one can even call rugby and booze a culture. Other countries burst into national anthems or country songs when crowded together – we have the haka. This little country is chock-full of paedophiles and sex offenders. And just in case one seeks to blame feminism or ‘ women’s refuges’ this place has been a violent, misogynistic, cultural desert since its inception.
    Godzone indeed!

  3. Social Welfare as I remember it, has always been dysfunctional, a joke, that has very bad, real world outcomes for displaced children….

  4. It’s absolutely inhumane the way these children are treated. Disgusting & cruel – they are collateral damage in the path of the woke Māori agenda

  5. CYFS / Oranga Tamariki are simply a multi-layered element in child trafficking, just like many other ‘Child Welfare Agencies’ are in most parts of the trafficked world!
They love to target children who are on the autism spectrum…as these are easily manipulated and vulnerable!
They trump-up false lies against the parents so that the ‘Pillars of Society’ and ‘Those in the Know’ can rape, violate, abuse and kill specific children!
