Parents of children at BestStart Mt Eden daycare in Auckland are expressing outrage after two toddlers, aged 18 months and two years, escaped from the facility when a teacher accidentally left an exit door open.
The children were found in the carpark by a former parent and safely returned, but families say the incident represents a “catastrophic failure of duty.”
While BestStart has launched an investigation and notified the Ministry of Education, parents remain unconvinced by their response, demanding a clear explanation and assurances that such negligence will never happen again.
Some families also dispute how far the toddlers managed to go, with reports they may have reached a busy nearby road. The lack of immediate communication from the daycare further fuelled frustration, with one mother calling the situation “horrifying” and “traumatic.”
Just sheer dumb luck that nothing tragic happened to those two children.
I sincerely hope Best Start do not try to downplay the gravity of the situation.
Women who don’t want stuff like this – and worse – happening to their children should stay at home and look after them.
Our taxpayer money pays for these childcare centres. It is not rocket science that parents and teachers should close the gates. The stupidity of people these days is staggering. The teacher who did this should be fired.
It might not necessaraly be a teacher but a parent who left the gate open
Diversity is stupidity.
