A passenger suffered burns after turbulence caused a full coffee pot to spill on her during Air New Zealand flight NZ607 from Wellington to Queenstown.
About 15 minutes into the flight, a severe jolt caused cabin crew to fall during tea service, resulting in moderate injuries to both the crew member and the passenger.
The injured passenger managed to douse herself with cold water to alleviate the burns on her arms, abdomen, and back. She later told state media that Air New Zealand should reconsider serving hot drinks on short flights and improve the lids on coffee pots. The airline stated that crew members are trained to handle such incidents and that they continuously review safety procedures. The injured were taken to Lakes District Hospital upon landing.
