Peters defends comments on Benjamin Doyle social media posts

Peters = Doyle news

Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters says he has raised legitimate concerns over Green MP Benjamin Doyle’s now-deleted private social media posts, questioning the appropriateness of the content and the lack of media scrutiny.

Peters insists that his inquiries—particularly around the meaning of “BibleBeltBussy” and the deletion of over 50 posts—are in the public interest, especially given the accountability expected of elected officials.

He has rejected claims of “spreading disinformation”, noting that the abuse directed at Doyle predates his statements and that he merely asked questions the media refused to address. Peters also dismissed criticism over his use of pronouns.

The Green Party has accused Peters of fuelling “immense” abuse and threats against Doyle, including threats involving his child.

Co-leaders Chlöe Swarbrick and Marama Davidson have called on Prime Minister Luxon to intervene, accusing Peters of “endangering the rainbow community”, while downplaying the nature of Doyle’s posts as “flippant” and “private” in an effort to deflect attention from the concerns raised by Peters.

  1. It’s a pity we don’t have a Police Force that we absolutely trust in to investigate the allegations. Saying that, the Greens have history of depravity and as the saying goes, no smoke without fire. Peter’s is right, if it was a coalition MP the media would be after blood

  2. Rather than criticising Peters, perhaps the Greens would do well to address the comments made and provide proper answers…for myself, I think the party is a shadow of its former self. Yes, I once voted Green but that was back in the day, when I felt they actually stood for something…..

    Now I’m just hoping NZ Loyal or a party like them, can come about, so I actually have my faith that we might have a future in NZ restored. Failing that we will be joining the 80K worth of Kiwi’s who left last year, looking for a better future elsewhere. Because if National and Labour are the best we can hope for, then I’d say we are “done”, as a nation.

  3. A sanctimonious Doyle got caught bullying. The Greens leadership in typical fashion protects the bully and accuses Peter’s of the wrongdoing. Sigh.

  4. Luxon has not come out of this stoush with any credit to himself. As usual. Just think where we would be now if Winston Peters was Prime Minister. Luxon is 55 but he seems only half alive when measured against Peters who will be 80 in November.
    Benjamin Doyle is a non-elected list MP being paid first and foremost by the New Zealand taxpayer. He has certain parliamentary obligations which precede his ideological affiliations and his sexual proclivities. He forgot his primary responsibilities. Now he can forget about being re-elected to any public office or six figure salary in the future.

  5. I don’t fully understand what all the jargon or sex labels mean and am suspicious enough not to believe anything on any media anywhere.

    But I’m surprised the Greens are busy trying to shut this down instead of fully explaining all meanings. The Green’s refusal to fully explain make them look sinister and dangerous.

    They need to come clean
