A petition has been started to save two Winstone International Pulp mills, the key employer in the Ruapehu District region, amid fears that local communities could become “ghost towns.”
The company made the decision due to unsustainable energy costs.
Daniel Abernathy, a union delegate, told state media that he was cautiously optimistic a government deal could keep the mills running. Staff have made 189 submissions to improve operations and reduce costs, which the company has responded to positively.
Meanwhile, Resources Minister Shane Jones has criticised the Electricity Authority over power price regulation, though no government intervention has occurred yet.
More to follow.

Action speaks louder than words
Or at least it would have
The typo here is UNsustainable, the orchestrated globalista decline of rural communities and industry (UN URBAN AGENDA HABITAT III), and a retrenchment into 15 minute gulags where “shots” will be mandated in order to receive food or access personal funds, that is if one hasn’t been arrested for State disagreeable “hate” speech / dis/mis information. A foreshortened tyrannical future awaits unless a majority of New Zealanders stir from their compliant apathy and rediscover their humanity and souls.
You got it in a nutshell!

Thanks for putting this info up DT.
Also, contact the local MP and then put-up a Petition on the NZ Government Petitions web page!
WE DEMAND THAT THE GOVERNMENT APPROVES SUBSIDISED ELECTRICITY FOR STRESSED RURAL / SEMI-RURAL BUSINESSES AND INDUSTRIES.
Those businesses in distress will need to purchase or lease diesel-driven Electric Generators so that they can offset the high power costs and continue their production and save their industrial plants from closing until the Electricity Subsidies are approved under EMERGENCY LEGISLATION!
Apparently the power issue was not the sole determining factor?
Might be a cover story for the town crier not having pulled finger
Why is power so expensive in NZ?
Govt meddling would be my guess
Shane Jones is a great target, and all’s fair in love and war, etc. but give the man credit, he’s highlighting issues which affect all of us. Personally, I like writing paper, kitchen towel and toilet paper. (made from wood pulp, right?)
Plus, look at your power bill.
