Yesterday police responded to emails of a concerning nature directed at a number of organisations throughout New Zealand, including schools and hospitals.
Police acknowledged ‘how unsettling these emails are for all concerned. We’d like to thank all involved for their cooperation as we investigation these emails.’
Police did not disclose the names of individual organisations that received emails.
Late yesterday police said they were ‘confident that emails received by a number of organisations today are from the same source, and Cybercrime Unit staff are working to identify the origin.
‘We would like to reassure the affected organisations that Police are taking this matter seriously and we appreciate today has been nerve-wracking.
‘We do not believe there is any actual threat to those that received the email, and we thank those affected for working alongside Police.’
Update 24 November
In a press release this morning police confirmed more organisations were targeted by concerning emails.
‘The emails are the same as those received by a number of organisations yesterday.
‘As noted yesterday, Police are confident that the emails being received are from the same source, and we do not believe there is any actual threat to the organisations receiving the emails.
‘However we ask that organisations who receive the emails continue to report them to Police, to assist in our ongoing enquiries to identify the origin of the emails.’

70% chance it’s some idiot prankster who’s about to enjoy a sandpaper d*ldo from the police, but if it IS legit, if anyone deliberately harms school or kindergarten children, I 110% support mob justice.
It’s exam time at schools. Is it likely someone wants to disrupt that process?
