A motorbike rider is in hospital with serious injuries after crashing while fleeing from police in Lower Hutt late last night.
Hutt Valley Area Commander Inspector Wade Jennings said the incident began around 10.30pm, when officers saw a motorcycle “being ridden in a dangerous manner” on Fairway Drive.
The rider then turned onto Taita Drive, where police were preparing to signal them to stop.
“Before Police signalled for the rider to stop, they allegedly accelerated, overtook another vehicle and failed to take a bend, crashing into a fence,” Jennings said.
The rider suffered serious leg injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.
The Serious Crash Unit has examined the scene, and police say enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
Another brainless oxygen thief. The resources spent on the cretin class of this wonderful country is obscene.
Motorbike riders should not be constrained by laws or chased by the police.
