Police are warning Auckland motorists to expect major delays tomorrow as Pro-Palestine groups plan to march across the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
Protestors are due to gather at Onepoto Domain on the North Shore from 9am before making their way south towards Victoria Park in central Auckland. The demonstration, expected to continue into the afternoon, is likely to cause significant disruption to southbound traffic on the bridge.
Police say they have been in ongoing communication with organisers and have reiterated concerns about safety, particularly the risks posed by large numbers of pedestrians on the bridge and potential weather conditions. “Our role concerns ensuring any protest activity is safe and lawful,” a spokesperson said.
Motorists are being advised to follow NZ Transport Agency guidance and use detours such as SH16 and SH18. Police, along with transport agencies, have advanced planning in place and will deploy significant resources to manage the protest. Officers will be highly visible across the area, with traffic management measures in place to minimise disruption and ensure safety.
“We respect the right to protest, but our expectation is that protestors move safely and efficiently on the day,” Police said, urging travellers to check NZTA’s Journey Planner, Auckland Transport’s website, and social media for the latest updates.
