NZ First’s Shane Jones says the party will not support National’s under-16 social media ban, calling its platform-blocking powers a “gross overreach of state power”.
Speaking to RCR’s Paul Brennan, Jones said the Department of Internal Affairs should not fill the role of parents by regulating what children do online and that expecting DIA to “police Silicon Valley” was “ludicrous”.
But with Labour supporting the bill in principle, Brennan pointed out National could potentially ensure its passage without its coalition partners. “I suspect they will,” Jones responded. “And that’s what the voters need to pay attention to. A grand coalition is in the offing”. Jones said National had shown that if it could not get its way with ACT and NZ First, it could “find common ground with the Labour Party”.
Jones also took aim at Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s insistence that remaining in the Paris Agreement was a bottom line, warning politicians more broadly to be careful using that term because it could “line their bottom”.
He also discussed migrant worker exploitation in the kiwifruit industry, electricity market reform and whether New Zealand was prepared for further disruption to international fuel supplies.

It’s not a social media ban; it’s a sneaky way to push through what will eventually be a MANDITORY digital ID for everyone. I do not now nor will I ever comply with any of this globalist crap.
No fan of Jones but this is dead right and what does that tell you about National and Labour? Are they really that different philosophically? Is there really a right, left divide or are they both globalists with a very comparable agenda? Remember the TPPA? National laid the ground work and then Labour who stated their opposition to it, passed it once in office.
Pay attention NZ voters. Labour and National are not your only choice. This is not and should not, be a two party election. We deserve democracy not CENSORSHIP of the young and PROXY DIGITAL ID’S for everyone else.
