Authorities have identified the perpetrator of a horrific stabbing spree at a Westfield shopping centre in Bondi Junction, Sydney’s east.
Joel Cauchi, a 40-year-old from Queensland, went on a rampage, claiming the lives of six individuals and injuring at least a dozen others, including a nine-month-old baby girl.
The victims, among them 38-year-old Ash Good, the mother of the wounded infant, were tragically caught in the attack.
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb confirmed that four women and one man were killed at the scene, along with the assailant, who was later identified as Cauchi. Good succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.
Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cooke revealed that Cauchi had recently relocated from Queensland to New South Wales. While the motive behind the attack remains unconfirmed, authorities suspect it could be linked to Cauchi’s mental health.
Cauchi was shot dead by Inspector Amy Scott. NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley commended Scott’s swift action, as well as the collective efforts of bystanders in subduing the attacker.
Queensland Police are assisting with the investigation, as NSW Health Minister Ryan Park provided updates on the hospitalised victims, including the critically injured baby girl.
Webb assured the public that the incident appears to be random, with no ongoing threat to safety.
The Westfield shopping centre remains closed as the investigation continues, with the crime scene expected to be secured for several days.
Rest in piss, you won’t be missed.
Hope the poor little baby girl pulls through ☹️
The knife attacker and subsequently dead body looked totally emanciated compared to these photos showing a healthy proped man.
Something happened to lead to this.
