‘Taxpayers off the hook for Ardern’s pet project’ – Act Party MP

Christchuch Call news

ACT is welcoming the Prime Minister’s decision to defund the Christchurch Call.

‘The Christchurch Call has provided Jacinda Ardern with plenty of opportunity to boost her profile on the world stage, but it’s never been clear why New Zealand taxpayers should be on the hook for it,’ said ACT MP Todd Stephson in a statement.

‘When Chris Hipkins appointed his old boss special envoy for the Christchurch Call, he agreed to pay her $450,000-$500,000 a year for her expenses, essentially so she could fly around lobbying foreign governments and social media giants to introduce new content regulations.

‘The Christchurch Call had noble intentions, but history tells us we should be wary of governments and corporations colluding to decide what information people can and can’t see.

‘Government funding for the Christchurch Call secretariat will end on 30 June, at which point it will exist outside of government as a charitable foundation.

‘The Christchurch Call has been supported by some of the world’s biggest companies. If they want to have a former New Zealand prime minister as special envoy, they’re welcome to pay her bills.’

  1. Money still coming from the poor tax payer via the UN is this the NGO? Luxon and his new pal Emanuel seem cosy.

  2. It begins to become more clear what Ardern was up to with her meeting with Bl*ckrock during c19. And now Act seem to be saying the call is better now the govt has no financial involvement. Why not disband it completely, Act, if you don’t believe it’s in the nation’s best interests? At the very least you could have vigorously opposed Ardern’s appointment in which Luxon received her with open arms. Seems like insincere window dressing to me.

    • Yes. It’s disturbing how much mileage Ardern still gets from this sh*t. Where do you have to go to get away from her? I agree, oppose the whole rotten thing,it’s a cesspool and almost as if this was the main objective prior to anything else! Cancelling dissenting views. There’s a whole religion right there.

  3. ACT can’t disband a charitable organisation. The best it could do is deregister it if it doesn’t meet requirements under the Charities Act. Glad there’s some sense in government to defund this outrageous gravy train for Jaspinda.

  4. This treasonous demon should be in jail not swanning around representing anyone.

  5. This whole thing reeks of authoritarianism and dirty politics….funny how a change of govt has seen nothing change….
