Police have launched an investigation after three people were found dead inside a home in Papatoetoe, south Auckland.
Emergency services were called to an address on Cambridge Terrace at around 6.40pm following a report that a person had been found deceased.
Detective Inspector Karen Bright of Counties Manukau CIB said officers arriving at the property discovered two further people inside the home. All three were pronounced dead.
“Upon arrival Police have located this person, as well as two additional people within the home who were also pronounced deceased,” Bright said.
Police initially established cordons around Cambridge Terrace, with Counties Manukau District Commander Superintendent Shanan Gray advising the public to avoid the area while emergency services worked at the scene.
An investigation is now under way to establish what happened, although Police say they are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the deaths and do not believe there is any danger to the wider community.
“While our investigation is in the early stages, we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection to what has occurred,” Bright said.
A detailed scene examination is being carried out at the property, with investigators awaiting its completion before determining more about the circumstances surrounding the three deaths.
“We are waiting for the completion of the scene examination, which will help us piece together the circumstances that led to this tragic event,” Bright said.
Police acknowledged the impact the deaths were likely to have on the Papatoetoe community and said officers were working to establish answers about what had occurred.
“Police recognise events like this hit at the hearts of our communities, and we are doing everything we can to answer the many questions around this devastating incident,” Bright said.
Support is being provided to the family of those who died as well as neighbouring residents.
Police said people living in the area should expect an increased police presence while the investigation and scene examination continue.
Further details about the identities of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding their deaths have not yet been released.
