Marokopa man Tom Phillips has been shot dead by police following a four-year manhunt that ended in a dramatic confrontation in Piopio this morning.
Phillips, who vanished with his three young children in 2021, was found on a quad bike with one child after an alleged farm store burglary, according to police.
The child was unharmed and is now in the care of police and Oranga Tamariki, while the other two children remain missing.
Police set up road spikes on Te Anga Road, anticipating Phillips’ movements, leading to the fatal shoot-out.
Authorities continue to search for the missing siblings as a significant police operation remains under way.
