Two people have died and three others have suffered serious to critical injuries following a major crash on State Highway 1 near Redwood Pass in Marlborough earlier today.
Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle collision at about 10.40am, where despite extensive efforts by first responders, two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The injured were transported for medical treatment as Police closed the highway while the Serious Crash Unit carried out a detailed examination.
The closure caused significant disruption for motorists throughout the day before the highway reopened at 5.18pm under temporary speed restrictions.
