A Wellington law firm has sent letters to more than 20 healthcare providers, warning them of potential legal risks associated with offering “gender-medicalisation services”.
The letter, issued by Franks Ogilvie, was instigated by Inflection Point NZ, a group that opposes the “gender indoctrination and medicalisation” of children.
The letter was sent to a range of practices, including psychology and psychiatry services, with the intent of cautioning practitioners about their approach to “gender-related medical treatment”. Franks Ogilvie director Stephen Franks stated that the warning aimed to highlight legal concerns and encourage providers to review their practices.
Franks noted that while other countries have implemented changes to guidelines and age limits for gender-related treatment, New Zealand has yet to follow suit. The letter suggests that practitioners should seek their own legal advice regarding their approach to care.
