State Owned Enterprises Minister Simeon Brown has announced the appointment of two new Crown directors to the boards of Airways and Kiwi Group Capital, moves aimed at strengthening governance in key state-owned organisations.
Mayurie Gunatilaka has been appointed to the Airways Board for a three-year term. She brings significant governance experience across large and complex infrastructure projects in New Zealand and internationally.
Brown said her background in infrastructure planning, delivery and strategic leadership would support Airways in continuing to provide safe, innovative and efficient air navigation services.
Susan Petersen has been appointed to the Kiwi Group Capital Board for a three-year term. She is also the current chair of the Kiwibank Board, making her the first Kiwi Group Capital director to simultaneously hold a position on Kiwibank’s board.
Kiwi Group Capital is moving toward a more conventional commercial governance model that includes overlapping board memberships between the holding company and the bank. The approach is intended to strengthen strategic alignment and improve long-term resilience. To preserve independent oversight, limits have been set on the number of Kiwi Group Capital directors who may also sit on the Kiwibank board.
Brown said the appointments would help ensure strong leadership and effective governance across both organisations, adding that the new directors bring valuable expertise and insight to support their long-term performance for New Zealanders.
