Police investigating the homicide of a Rotorua man are asking residents near the scene to search their properties for items that may have been discarded by the offender while fleeing.
Thirty-seven-year-old Nicholas Patrick Mitchell was found dead inside a vehicle on Ford Road shortly before 8.30pm on Friday. Police say enquiries are progressing rapidly as they work to identify and locate the person responsible.
Rotorua Area Investigations Manager Senior Sergeant Mark Van Kempen said officers were following several lines of enquiry and had executed multiple search warrants in the area, including on Ford Road near where Mr Mitchell’s body was discovered.
He said residents living on and around Ford Road were being asked to check yards, fencelines and surrounding areas for anything unusual, including discarded clothing, weapons or other items that could be linked to the crime.
“If you find something that looks out of place, please do not touch it and contact Police immediately,” Van Kempen said.
Police are also seeking information about a white Toyota Hiace van, registration DFR734, which was seen on Ford Road or in nearby areas on the night of the killing.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Police via 105, quoting reference number 251212/4041, or to provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
